Total Quality and its Impact on the Central Library of the University of Babylon: A Survey

Abstract

In general, the study seeks to identify university library quality programs. Specifically, the General Secretariat of the University of Babylon's Central Library. As well as the degree of conviction of experts and specialists in library affairs, to proceed with the development of professional work and information services. Identifying the most prominent obstacles to the implementation of these programs and offering suggestions and recommendations for the development process from the perspective of participants and university library administrators. The study produced the following set of findings and recommendations:



  1. More than half of the study sample (60%), it was discovered, had prior knowledge of the subject of total quality. This knowledge was obtained through self-education with the goal of expanding the knowledge supply, which has a positive impact on the provision of excellent service. Among the remaining (40%) respondents, most have no knowledge of the subject of total quality, and they consider it unrelated to library development.

  2. The results show the importance of offering a quality program in the Central Library. (40%) confirmed the seriousness of working on this program in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to improve the reality of the Central Library. Because the University of Babylon is at the forefront of Iraqi universities in scientific and academic rankings. The percentage of those not supporting the importance of quality programs reached (60%) since they believe it requires a lot of effort and skill to implement.

  3. Providing periodic training courses for university library workers, whether at home or abroad, with the assistance of qualified experts and specialists.

  4. Provide the General Secretariat with the office equipment, programs, and advanced systems it needs in order to implement the development plan and monitor it on a regular basis.
