The Reality of Translation between Traditional and Modern Methodologies in the Arab Academic Institutes

Abstract

 This study examines some of the obstacles and problems faced by academic institutions in our Arab countries with regard to the methodology of translation, both oral and written, and the traditional procedures followed in teaching them, as well as the lack of understanding of translation as an academic subject. The study also addresses the problem of the lack of coordination between the public sectors represented by the university institution and the private institutes of language teaching or translation. It concluded that translation, generally in our Arab countries, lacked coordination between the public and private sectors to develop translation and there is no clear translation methodology to teach. The research has focused on solving these obstacles by organizing intensive seminars, lectures, so as to keep pace with development in various developed countries and increase the number of study hours in universities for this important subject.
